In this article we will view the guide lines that Kabbalah attaches to dreams.

The Sages are known to have said never to relate a dream to anyone, except for people who you are really close to and love. If it was a bad dream that occurred during a night’s sleep, it is a sign of vanity. The bad thoughts encountered in this kind of dream are very narrow   and distant from reality. However if the dream is a pleasant and positive one, then there is no harm in telling everybody that you know about it

Kabbalah wisdom teaches us that every one of us is here in this World in order to receive a Light. In order to achieve this state we need to follow a process of constant change and improvement. Dreams, according to Kabbalah, can be a signs on a road that enable us to understand what we need to change. They can only here to provide us with energy to implement our mission in life.

Zohar (an ancient work of Kabbalah wisdom) explains that dreams that remain without interpretation are like letters that have never been opened. Zohar explains that there is nothing that takes place in the material world that does not have a preceded reason in the spiritual world.

With proper viewing, correct interpretation and utilization of our dreams we can foresee the future and prevent problems that can occur.

In the Zohar (Lech-Lecha 4:146-148) “With my soul have I desired you in the night”

As the soul (Nefesh) leaves the body and wishes to climb, it will discover that there are many grades to climb. It wanders about and meets with skins (klipot) of the lights of impurity. If the soul is pure and has not been defiled WITH THE BODY during the day, then it rises upward. But if it is impure then it is defiled among THE KLIPOT cleaves onto them, and climbs no further.

And there, AMONG THE KLIPOT, they inform the Nefesh about future events, and THE NEFESH cleaves on to them. Sometimes, they full around with the Nefesh and tell it lies. Thus, in such a manner, it wanders all night until the person wakes up. Then the Nefesh returns to its place IN THE BODY. (Happy are the righteous that the Holy One, blessed be He, reveals His secrets to them in their dreams, so that they may protect themselves from judgment. Woe to those wicked people who defile themselves and their Nefesh.)

In the night hours, there is a constant struggle between that part of the body’s consciousness that desires material satisfaction and sharing consciousness of the soul that strives to give and to share. Sleep is the sole opportunity for a soul to arrive at the places that a body can’t control, and that time and space and movement do not limit. Kabbalah explains, that in the night our soul is charged with the strengths it needs for the next day.
